Good Grief is a comedy showcase that shines a light on the glorious humor that emerges from our darkest times. Some of Seattle’s funniest comedians will perform sets that touch on the topics of death, grief, and life after loss.

The comics:

Emmett Montgomery:

Emmett Montgomery is a Utah born/Seattle based comedian/storyteller/weirdo who has been failing beautifully on and off the stage for almost two decades. He was featured on season 9 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing and voted by the readers of Seattle Weekly as “Seattle’s Best Comedian” three times. He has been fortunate to be involved in all sorts of neat things including with the independent wrestling community as a guest commentator, being cast as a Sasquatch in commercials for a pizza place, and getting invited to participate in comedy and art festivals all over North America.

Emmett is currently one of the regular hosts of Seattle’s Moth Storyslam, produces the somewhat beloved JOKETELLERS UNION at Clock-Out Lounge with his friend Brett Hamil ,and educates people about the fun cosmic horror that is Christmas as his alter-ego Sugar Plum Gary. Emmett believes that jokes and stories are the best way to celebrate and remember those that we love and that the best comedy comes from a place of kindness, community and strangeness.

Natalie Holt:

A stand-up comedian and humor writer living in Seattle, Natalie Holt whirls with surreal wordplay and wears their heart on their sleeve. They create comedy that spins their occasional anxiety and ceaseless curiosity (or is it occasional curiosity and ceaseless anxiety?) into absurdity.

They keep busy performing both locally and nationally and co-produce Seattle's favorite open mic, The Comedy Nest. Their festival credits include Bumbershoot, 10,000 Laughs, All Jane, Asheville Comedy Festival, and 208 Comedy Fest.  You can find their humor writing on Slackjaw, The Belladonna, and McSweeney's. They studied at The Second City and at no other point in their life.

Rachel Aflleje:

Rachel Aflleje was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington and got her start in comedy in the beautiful city of Olympia. Now based out of Tacoma, Rachel works with children by day and entertains the crowds by night. (And yes, she’s tired.) Rachel has performed all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond and most recently competed in the 42nd annual Seattle International Comedy Competition. Rachel recently placed in the top of 3 of The Comedy Voice competition in Tacoma and co-produces The Laughing Elk. Rachel’s comedy pokes fun at the struggles of hashtag real life with a heavy sprinkling of sass. Her ability to turn tragedy on its head and dunk it in the toilet a few times to show it whose boss leaves life’s nastiest curveballs shaking in their boots.

Emma Schmuckler:

A fresh face on the Seattle comedy scene, Emma Schmuckler and is so excited to be producing her first comedy show. This is the part of the bio where her impressive credits would be listed, but we’re still working on that part. Her comedy has been described as witty, poignant, and “why would you say that?” She can be found @emmaschmucks on Instagram and TikTok.

And hosting, Laura Lyons:

Laura Lyons is a 28-year-old comedian from the Midwest. Laura began performing comedy almost a decade ago in a small Iowa dive bar and has since performed in many venues around the country and internationally, such as Alaska’s “B4 U Die” comedy festival (2022,) Seattle’s “Disabled List” festival (2023,) Seattle’s “Emerald City Comic Con” (2023,) and was a finalist in Calgary’s FunnyFest Comedy Competition (2023). Laura primarily uses dark humor, and jokes about topics such as mental health, law school, and surviving her Catholic upbringing.
